DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — No formal charges have been filed yet against the man suspected of fatally shooting two police officers in Iowa in separate ambush attacks. The man remains hospitalized. Police say Scott Greene turned himself in to authorities yesterday, just hours after the killings near Des Moines. They say he is hospitalized for treatment of an existing medical condition, and hasn't been formally charged. Greene is suspected in the early-morning slayings of Des Moines Police Sgt. Tony Beminio and Urbandale Police Officer Justin Martin. Urbandale is a suburb of Des Moines.
LONDON (AP) — A leader of an anti-European-Union party in Britain says he's concerned that politicians will now try to block or delay Britain's exit from the EU. This, after a court ruling that the government can't start the process for "Brexit" without the involvement of the country's parliament. The British pound surged higher after the ruling. It's lost about a fifth of its value against the dollar since the June vote to leave the EU.
BAGHDAD (AP) — A senior military commander in Iraq says more than 5,000 civilians have been evacuated from newly-retaken eastern parts of the city of Mosul and taken to camps. The commander says civilians have been fleeing three neighborhoods in Iraq's second-largest city since yesterday. Iraqi troops this week entered the city for the first time since it was taken by the Islamic State group two years ago.
MOSCOW (AP) — A Russian lawmaker is warning that if Syrian rebels do not leave the city of Aleppo by the end of a new pause in fighting, Russian and Syrian forces will "purge" the city. Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday offered a new unilateral pause in fighting in the city, urging rebels to use that lull to leave the city's besieged eastern districts. The Syrian rebels dismissed Putin's offer.
NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are slightly higher on Wall Street, giving the market a chance to break its longest losing streak in five years. The market in recent days has been plagued by uncertainty about the upcoming presidential election, as the polls have tightened.
