WASHINGTON (AP) — Early voting in the U.S. presidential election is taking place in 37 states, and the millions of votes that have been cast point to an advantage for Hillary Clinton, especially in critical battleground states. There's a strong early-voting turnout among registered Democrats, minorities, and young people — those who are likely to support Clinton. Figures show that Clinton is showing strength in Florida, North Carolina, Nevada, Colorado and Arizona. And there are even favorable signs in Republican-leaning Utah and Texas.

WASHINGTON (AP) — There's another indication today that businesses are holding onto their workers. The government says fewer Americans sought unemployment aid last week, suggesting that hiring is likely solid. Weekly applications fell by 3,000 to a level not far from the 43-year-low that was reached last month.

NEW YORK (AP) — Twitter is cutting about 9 percent of its employees worldwide. The company has struggled amid competition from the likes of Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram. It's been losing money and can't find a buyer. Since the end of 2014, Twitter has picked up just 15 million monthly users to expand its audience to 313 million people through June. During the same stretch, Facebook gained 319 million users to reach 1.7 billion people.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Authorities say an Oklahoma man wanted in a cross-state string of killings, shootings and carjackings could be dead. Thirty-eight-year-old Michael Dale Vance Jr. was wounded Sunday during a shootout with police, and he hasn't been seen since early Monday in western Oklahoma, about 30 miles from the Texas border. Vance is accused in the near-decapitations of two relatives.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Today is a day of rest for the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs after Game 2 of the World Series. The teams have won one apiece following last night's 5-1 victory by Chicago. Game 3 takes the contest to Wrigley Field Friday night.
