CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Indians have taken Game 1 of the World Series as Corey Kluber, Roberto Perez and Francisco Lindor (lihn-DOHR') led a 6-0 rout of the Chicago Cubs. Kluber worked six-plus innings and set a postseason record with eight strikeouts over the first three frames. Perez homered twice and had four RBIs, while Lindor went 3-for-4 with a run scored.

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Chicago Cubs had Kyle Schwarber back in the lineup for the first time since he tore knee ligaments on April 7 at Arizona. Schwarber served as the designated hitter and went 1-for-3 with a double. Chris Coghlan went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts in place of right fielder Jason Heyward, who was benched after going 2-for-28 in the National League playoffs.

UNDATED (AP) — It was a great night for the defending champs and a bad one for the reigning Western Conference winners as the NBA opened its season last night. LeBron James recorded his 43rd career triple-double with 19 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds as the Cavaliers hammered New York 117-88. Kevin Durant had 27 points and 10 boards in his Warriors debut, but the San Antonio Spurs got a career-high 35 points from Kawhi (kah-WY') Leonard in a 129-100 laugher at Golden State.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New York Giants have released Josh Brown a few days after police documents revealed the kicker had admitted to repeatedly abusing his former wife while they were married. In a separate statement, Brown said that he had never hit his former wife during the six-year period when he admits spousal abuse. Brown was placed on leave by the NFL last week when the documents were first made public.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Jay Cutler will be back under center for the Chicago Bears when they host the Minnesota Vikings on Monday. Cutler was out five weeks with a sprained thumb sustained on Sept. 19. He was replaced by Brian Hoyer, who has been placed on injured reserve after breaking his left arm in Sunday's loss.
