SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — An Orem chiropractor has been accused of trying to pay overdue taxes with a check linked to defunct bank accounts.
The Deseret News reports (http://bit.ly/2e4BWJE ) that 64-year-old Louis Hansen was federally indicted Wednesday on charges of attempting to evade paying federal income tax and corruptly endeavoring to impair and impede the due administration of internal revenue law.
If convicted, Hansen faces up to five years in prison for the first charge and three years for the second.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Hansen is accused of issuing a bad check in 2012 to pay $343,000 in taxes he owed from 2005 to 2010. The check was linked to a closed bank account.
