SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake man who allegedly threw a rock at a window in the federal courthouse faces a criminal charge that could land him as much as 10 years in prison.
Rex Dean Bagley, 41, is charged with destruction of federal property, according to a complaint filed Friday in U.S. District Court.
A worker at the courthouse, 351 S. West Temple, reported seeing Bagley throw a rock at a plate-glass window on the northeast corner of the building, according to the complaint. The window had a hole in the middle and the glass was cracked in a spider web pattern. Damage is estimated at $6,000 to $10,000.
After agents took Bagley into custody, he told them that he posted on Facebook what he was going to do, the complaint says. Bagley allegedly said he did it because he had information the "world needed to know."
Bagley was released after a court appearance Friday. A hearing is scheduled for Oct. 20.
