WASHINGTON (AP) — The director of homeland security says hackers have made their way into state election systems "in a few cases." But Jeh (jay) Johnson says the federal government hasn't found "any manipulation" so far of voting information. He says 21 states have contacted the agency for help in safeguarding their election systems, and he hopes more states will ask for cybersecurity assistance. The FBI last month warned state officials to improve their election security after hackers targeted systems in Illinois and Arizona.

CALAIS, France (AP) — French police have fired tear gas and water cannons at protesters defending migrants in the northern city of Calais (kal-AY') as the government prepares to shut down the city's notorious migrant camp. TBILISI, Georgia (AP) — Pope Francis' efforts to improve relations with the Georgian Orthodox Church have suffered a setback. The Georgian patriarchate decided at the last minute not to send an official delegation to the pope's Mass in Tbilisi (tuh-BLEE'-see) and reminded the Orthodox faithful they cannot participate in Catholic services. Francis still pressed on with his agenda. He called for the historical divisions that have "lacerated" Christianity to be healed through patience, trust and dialogue.
