BURLINGTON, Wash. (AP) — "Creepy, rude and obnoxious." That's how a neighbor and high school acquaintance of the suspect in the deadly Washington state mall shooting describes 20-year-old Arcan Cetin (CHAY'-tihn). Amber Cathey, who is 21, lives in an apartment in Oak Harbor next to the apartment where Cetin lived. Cetin was arrested Saturday following the shootings Friday at the Cascade Mall in Burlington that left five dead.
MIAMI (AP) — People in Miami along with the entire baseball world are mourning the death of young Marlins pitching sensation Jose Fernandez. The 24-year-old hurler and two of his friends were killed early today in a boat accident off Miami Beach. Marlins players gathered today at the team's ballpark to grieve together. Today's game with Atlanta was canceled. The Cuban native became a U.S. citizen last year and was enormously popular in Miami.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Forecasters say flooding is expected to begin in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, tonight and reach its height by Tuesday. Residents are leaving low-lying areas of the city, adhering to a request by authorities to clear out by 8 p.m. due to the risk of flooding from the rising Cedar River. Officials say it could be days before people can return home. Nearby communities in Iowa are donating several thousand filled sandbags to Cedar Rapids.
OAKHURST, Calif. (AP) — The California Highway Patrol says one passenger was killed and 11 were injured when a tour bus carrying students from China hit a tree near Yosemite National Park on Saturday and went down an embankment. The Fresno Bee reports that the patrol says the Chinese tourist who died was one of four passengers with serious injuries. Most of the 22 people on the bus were 12- to 15-year-old students and their adult chaperones.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities in Las Vegas say they found nothing dangerous after bomb experts searched the belongings of a shooting suspect for a possible explosive device. Las Vegas police say the scene of the morning shooting at a coffee shop no longer posed a potential threat but remains closed to the public because of the investigation. Police say one person was shot dead after an argument between two men turned ugly.
