ZION NATIONAL PARK — A man and a woman were injured on Emerald Pools Trail in Zion National Park Thursday afternoon when lightning struck a cottonwood tree and one of its limbs fell on them, officials said.

The two victims were transported to the hospital in stable condition. The limb was 8 inches in diameter, according to Aly Baltrus, Zion National Park Spokeswoman.

The extent of their injuries is unclear at this time. More information will be posted when it becomes available.
