Everyone recognizes the great importance of the mining industry to Carbon and Emery Counties. I recently had the opportunity to really learn more about the industry and the magnitude of the economic impact for Eastern Utah.
Allen Parker Childs and Larry W. Johnson of Talon Resources Inc., of Huntington, Utah were so hospitable and accommodating during my recent visit in their office. I'm a real neophyte about the oil and gas business and about mining. Allen, Larry and their associates were willing to explain the importance and ramifications of their company.
Talon Resources provides a wide variety of services to the industry. When I first arrived, Allen and Larry told me they were just finishing up some work on drug and alcohol testing. The company provides on-site testing and also has certified testing technicians in a local clinic.
I was told that Talon Resources also provides environmental assessments and permitting, construction inspection, surveying, engineering, instrument calibration, permit tracking, surveys for landfill and hazardous waste sites. They provide mining and other subsurface location maps and global positioning system surveys.
Safety is critically important in the industry and Talon Resources has strong expertise and knowledge for safety training sessions. I counted 18 different training sessions that are offered by the company. Whenever you talk safety in the workplace, you think of the Mine Safety and Health Administration or MSHA or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA. Allen, Larry and their staff have a very comprehensive program to make certain companies adhere to OSHA requirements. There are many, many more services available from Talon.
