PROVO — Ashley Hatch isn’t slowing down any time soon.

After scoring the second hat trick of her career in a 3-2 upset at Penn State, the senior forward added two goals and an assist in the Cougars’ 5-2 rout of Tennessee at South Field Friday night.

Hatch, who earned NCAA Player of the Week honors after defeating the defending national champs, has seven goals on the season and is tied for the most in the nation. Friday marked the eighth multigoal game of her career.

Michele Vasconcelos also had two goals for the Cougars (3-1), who went up just two minutes into the match when Hatch converted Elena Medeiros’ through ball into the bottom left corner for the 1-0 lead.

“We wanted to come out with a lot more energy, a lot more excitement and be lot better with our possession,” BYU coach Jennifer Rockwood said. “I think the girls did that.

"Obviously scoring a goal in the first two minutes sets the tone, and then I thought our midfield did a great job creating a rhythm by keeping and moving the ball around. You can’t ask for much more. ”

Vasconcelos doubled the advantage in the 24th minute, but Hannah Wilkinson scored her first of two goals two minutes after the half-hour mark.

The Cougars didn’t go silent, though.

Medeiros tapped in a long cross from the right sideline from Madie Lyons to give the Cougars a 3-1 halftime advantage, and BYU cruised the rest of the way.

After Medeiros earned a penalty kick in the 66th minute, Hatch’s conversion attempt was saved by Tennessee goalkeeper Jamie Simmons, who had six saves on the night.

But Hatch followed up the save with a far-post goal on the rebound, and Vasconcelos notched her brace with four minutes remaining to help ice the win.

The Cougars put 11 of their 17 shots on target, and held the Vols (2-3) to just two shots on frame.

BYU travels to rival Utah (3-1) for a 3:30 p.m. MT kickoff Monday at Ute Field. The game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
