FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — The German football federation has joined France in supporting Aleksander Ceferin in his bid to replace Michel Platini as UEFA president.
Ceferin, who heads the Slovenian federation, has entered the presidential contest alongside Michael van Praag of the Netherlands and Angel Maria Villar of Spain.
UEFA's 55 member federations will vote on Sept. 14 in Athens.
The German federation said it backs Ceferin's intention to step up dialogue with national bodies, leagues, and clubs, and to pay closer attention to their interests, as well as his promise for good governance, more transparency, and to fight corruption.
Platini was found guilty of ethics violations in 2011. The winner will complete the Frenchman's third four-year presidential term, which expires in early 2019.
