(KSL News) New developments today on the Real Salt Lake Stadium battle.
Money originally planned to help fund a new stadium has been pulled by the state. The money was to come from so-called TRT taxes, or hotel taxes.
Now some think the money has been moved for other city needs.
Joe Hatch/ Salt Lake City Council/ Courtesy of KSL News Radio Nightside Project: "I would preFer Sandy do it on it's own and we use this TRT fund for light rail, because I would much rather spend that TRT money on a light spur from Salt Lake City to the airport."
The state still hasn't said for sure if a new Trax line is where the money will head. Leaders will meet next month to talk about redirecting the money.
This announcement comes just days before Real Salt Lake owner Dave Checketts' self-imposed deadline of August 12th. Checketts named the 12th as the day he'll sell the team if stadium funding isn't stabilized.
Saturday is also the day the team battles powerhouse Real Madrid.
