SALT LAKE CITY — A crash involving five vehicles injured two people and closed multiple lanes on I-15 for nearly an hour Friday afternoon.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:35 p.m. near 1300 South on I-15 northbound, according to Utah Highway Patrol officials.
UHP said a man driving a white Cadillac was following too close to another vehicle and did not notice traffic had completely stopped. The driver rear-ended a burgundy hatchback, which then collided with a gold Toyota and sideswiped a pickup truck hauling a small trailer before colliding with a semitruck hauling double trailers that jack-knifed.
The man driving the Cadillac and a woman driving the Toyota were both transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, UHP said. No other injuries were reported.
Crews also cleaned up a small fuel leak from the semitruck. The cleanup lasted about two hours, causing major delays for northbound traffic.
Officials closed a ramp to eastbound state Route 201 and a westbound I-80 ramp to northbound I-15 during the backup, but both have since reopened.
KSL-TV reporter Ashley Kewish said she witnessed the accident as she was driving on the highway.
"I just saw a large truck just go down maybe about three cars in front of me and then everyone (began) swerving and slamming on their brakes," she said. "I don't know how I ended up in the lane (I was) in."
Police are still investigating the crash.
