SAN DIEGO (AP) — Jake Arrieta (ehr-ee-ET'-uh) allowed two hits in eight shutout innings in winning his National League-leading 16th victory as the Chicago Cubs downed San Diego 5-3 last night. Kris Bryant swatted his 33rd home run and Addison Russell also went deep for the National League Central leaders.

SEATTLE (AP)— The New York Yankees kept their wild card hopes alive by thrashing Seattle 5-1. CC Sabathia (suh-BATH'-ee-uh) and two relievers combined on a four-hitter. Jacoby Ellsbury hit a tiebreaking two-run homer.

UNDATED (AP)— The Boston Red Sox remained tied with Toronto atop the American League East by edging Tampa Bay 2-1. Meanwhile, Russell Martin had three hits and two RBIs in the Blue Jays' 7-2 win over the L.A. Angels.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)— The Kansas City Royals go for their 10th straight victory tonight. The defending World Series champions blanked Miami 1-0 last night as Yordano Ventura evened his record at 9-9.

TOKYO (AP) — With Brazil's rush job in mind, Tokyo is already making preparations for the 2020 Summer Olympics with the Olympic flag arriving today. Construction of the main stadium is slated to start by the end of this year. Japan's capital also hosted the Olympics in 1964.
