RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The U.S. women's volleyball team went to Rio as the world's top-ranked squad and looking for the gold. They are leaving with the bronze after beating the Netherlands in the bronze medal match 25-23, 25-27, 25-22 and 25-19.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Gwen Jorgensen of the U.S. has won the gold medal in the triathlon. A star athlete at the University of Wisconsin, Jorgensen finished a whopping 40 seconds in front of the runner-up. The only previous medal for the U.S. in triathlon came in 2004 when Susan Williams won the silver.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Inbee Park, the winner of seven major professional tournaments, is the winner of the Olympic golf tournament. The South Korean finished the four-day event 16 under par, five in front of New Zealand's Lydia Ko.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills have released running back Karlos Williams. The move comes a little over a month after the NFL suspended Williams for the first four games of the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) — Carl Edwards starts from the pole this evening in the Sprint Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The winner of the race a year ago was Joey Logano. In this year's standings the leader is Brad Keselowski.
