DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Rockies reinstated reliever Chad Qualls from the 15-day disabled list on Friday and cleared a roster spot for him by optioning struggling rookie reliever Carlos Estevez to their Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque.
Qualls, 38, went on the disabled list July 23, retroactive to July 16, because of colitis. He is 2-0 with a 5.61 ERA in 36 appearances for the Rockies this season.
Estevez, who made his major league debut April 23 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, is 2-7 with 11 saves in 16 chances and a 5.28 ERA in 44 1-3 innings pitched this season. He was replaced as the closer by Adam Ottavino after blowing consecutive saves 10 days ago.
