LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — An Arkansas Department of Education committee has rejected applications from two proposed charter schools in western Arkansas.
The Charter Authorizing Panel voted Wednesday to turn down plans for the proposed Lockesburg STEM Academy in Sevier County and the Classical Academy in Farmington.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/2bkWydF ) that panel members rejected the Lockesburg charter school plan because leaders of the sponsoring organization didn't attend the hearing. State panel members said they voted down the Farmington plan because of last-minute changes in the school's location and changes to its list of requested waivers of state laws and regulations.
The Classical Academy already operates a charter school in Bentonville. The panel's decisions now head to the State Board of Education for its consideration.
