RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Authorities in Brazil say they'll be questioning three of U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte's (LAHK'-teez) teammates today about a robbery they reported. Last night, two of the teammates were removed from a plane headed for the U.S. so that they could be questioned. Lochte is already in the U.S. He first said the robbery happened in a taxi and a gun was pointed as his head. Then he said the robbery happened after the taxi stopped at a gas station and the gun was pointed at him, but not at his head.
UNDATED (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers have padded their lead in the National League West, moving 1 ½ games ahead of the Giants. The Dodgers were 7-2 winners at Philadelphia behind Adrian Gonzalez, who hit a three-run homer and a two-run blast. San Francisco blew a 4-0 lead as Andrew McCutchen belted a two-run shot during a six-run sixth that sent the Pirates past the Giants, 6-5.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland had a great opportunity to stretch its lead in the AL Central to seven games over Detroit, but the Indians coughed up a 7-5 lead in the ninth inning of a 10-7 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Cody Allen was two outs away from a save until Adam Eaton launched a grand slam. Kansas City completed a three-game sweep as Eric Hosmer belted a tiebreaking, two-run homer in a three-run ninth that pushed the Royals past the Tigers 4-1 in Detroit.
UNDATED (AP) — Toronto's lead in the AL East is one game over Boston and two ahead of Baltimore following victories by the Blue Jays and Red Sox. Melvin Upton Jr. smacked a three-run homer and J.A. Happ became the majors' first 17-game winner of the season by pitching into the eighth inning of the Jays' 7-4 triumph over the Yankees. Jackie Bradley Jr. provided a two-run homer and a two-run double for the Bosox in an 8-1 rout of the Orioles, a game that was called because of rain in the seventh inning.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The NFL has suspended New York Giants kicker Josh Brown for one game for violating the league's personal conduct policy. The exact violation was not disclosed. Brown will miss the Giants' regular-season opener against Dallas on Sept. 11.
