PASO ROBLES, Calif. (AP) — Evacuations are being ordered in a lakeside community in central California ahead of a fast-moving wildfire. Officials say the blaze broke out Saturday afternoon in the rolling hills south of Lake Nacimiento, about 230 miles northwest of Los Angeles. Meanwhile, fire crews in the northern part of the state are battling a rapidly spreading blaze that's threatening homes in the Lower Lake area. The fire erupted late Saturday afternoon.
NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police say no motive has been established in the shooting deaths of a leader of a mosque in Queens and his associate as they left afternoon prayers. According to police, there's no reason to believe the men were shot because they were Muslim. No suspects are in custody. Members of the Bangladeshi community served by the mosque held a rally Saturday night demanding that the shootings to be treated as a hate crime.
MILWAUKEE (AP) —Police in Milwaukee say a police officer is being treated after he was hit in the head by a brick thrown through a squad car window on Saturday night. Officers are dealing with unrest on the city's north side following a man's fatal shooting by police hours earlier. Police say the man was armed and was shot during a foot chase that followed a traffic stop. Police say they have a large presence as they try to disperse a crowd of protesters
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The police chief in North Carolina's capital city says investigators are still trying to determine whether there was a shooting at a busy mall where witnesses reported hearing gunfire. Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown says people heard what sounded like gunshots Saturday at Raleigh's Crabtree Valley Mall and investigators are examining all possibilities. She says no one was wounded, no shell casings were found and no one is in custody,
WASHINGTON (AP) — House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is advising Democrats to change their cellphone numbers and not let family members answer their cellphones or read incoming text messages. She says personal and official information of Democratic House members and congressional staff is now posted online after what she calls "an electronic Watergate break-in" of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and other party entities.
