ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Defensive back Maurice Smith has started his acclimation to Georgia a day after the Southeastern Conference cleared his transfer from Alabama as a graduate student.
Smith was assigned a No. 2 jersey and was with the Bulldogs for Saturday's scrimmage at Sanford Stadium. Coach Kirby Smart, the former Alabama defensive coordinator, said Smith's new teammates were "receptive and excited to have him."
Smart says Smith is "comfortable" with the Georgia system but added that "everything is not the same."
Smart says he'll review the tape of the scrimmage before grading the play of quarterbacks Greyson Lambert, Brice Ramsey and Jacob Eason.
Tailback Nick Chubb continued his comeback from major surgery on his left knee as he participated in the scrimmage.
