This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
Last year, consumers using the Internet for purchases spent $63 billion online, and forecasters believe that number will nearly quadruple by the end of 2005.
If you're a business owner and you have a Web site, that's good news. But if you don't, it's reason enough to get one. In fact, most small- to medium-sized businesses still don't have a Web presence, says John Boyd, CEO of Elixir Labs, a full-service Web site provider. He said if more small business owners realized the value, they wouldn't hesitate to have a site created.
John told me that a Web site can open a new revenue stream, eliminate geographic boundaries and positively impact a business's sales and overhead ratio. He said when you consider how quickly and affordable a site can be produced, it all adds up to substantial value.
But doing it right is crucial and that's why John and two partners--Kris Boyd and Marcellus Barrus--teamed up just over a year ago to found Elixir Labs in Salt Lake. All three had worked extensively in information technology and the Internet and decided to focus on developing e-commerce and customized Web applications for small businesses. Now, through their company Elixir Labs, they offer a complete spectrum of Web site services. And they do it for a low cost. Projects start at just $499.
Already, they've developed applications for a mixture of local and national companies. In one case, they helped a collections company create an Internet-based program so its customers could check their balances online. For a medical company, they designed a system that would allow doctors to make virtual house calls.
John said in simple terms, Elixir Labs is putting the Web to work for small businesses. And with consumers spending more money online, that¹s the perfect solution.
