SALT LAKE CITY — Two people drowned Wednesday at Bear Lake, authorities confirmed.
A 37-year-old woman and 11-year-old girl were the fatal victims, the Bear Lake County (Idaho) Sheriff's Office reported.
The girl originally was reported missing on the lake, said sheriff's deputy Robert Pelto. Her body was recovered around 7 p.m.
The woman was taken to Bear Lake Memorial Hospital, where she later died. An 8-year-old girl was also taken to the hospital for injuries but was later released.
The fatal incidents occurred in the Fish Haven area of the lake on the Idaho side of the border, according to Pelto.
No names were released Wednesday night pending notification of family members.
The sheriff's office and medical responders were assisted by county search and rescue crews and search teams from Utah.
The circumstances that led to the drownings were not immediately released.
