SALT LAKE CITY — A man died Wednesday after being hit by a TRAX train downtown.
Around 5 p.m., the 22-year-old man was hit on 400 South between State Street and 200 East in an area with no crosswalk, said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Brandon Shear.
Police interviewed several witnesses who were on the street where the incident happened, as well as some passengers on the train, Shear said.
It wasn't clear Wednesday night whether the man deliberately walked into the path of the train.
Salt Lake Police Sgt. Robin Heiden said the investigation as of Wednesday night hadn't concluded the incident was a suicide, but also hadn't ruled out that possibility. Police expected to use a preliminary autopsy report Wednesday to make a more informed conclusion, Heiden said.
The man, whose name was not released Wednesday, died at the scene. Salt Lake firefighters arrived to remove the man's body from the tracks.
