CICERO, N.Y. (AP) — State transportation officials say they've replaced a road sign near the Syracuse airport that misspelled the city's name.
A Department of Transportation spokesman tells The Post-Standard of Syracuse (http://bit.ly/29MABqV ) that the sign with Syracuse spelled as S-R-Y-A-C-U-S-E was taken down Wednesday night and replaced with a corrected sign Thursday morning.
A story on the misspelled sign accompanied by a photograph of it was posted on the newspaper's website on 5:15 p.m. Wednesday after a passing motorist noticed the gaff that afternoon and tripped off the Post-Standard.
The sign, located along the on-ramp to southbound Interstate 481 in the town of Cicero, directs motorists to the airport.
The DOT spokesman said he didn't know when the misspelled sign was installed. He said the mistake is under review.
