LAS VEGAS (AP) — The new 352-foot air traffic control tower at McCarran International Airport is set to open Aug. 28, eight months behind schedule.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/29vSx4y ) that the $99 million facility was delayed by two government shutdowns before a massive construction error was found.

Air traffic controllers are currently undergoing training before moving into the new tower.

The old tower had to be replaced as ongoing growth around McCarran has created blind spots for controllers working the 185-foot tower.
