LONDON (AP) — Serena Williams has won her 22nd major tennis title. The American beat Angelique Kerber in the Wimbledon final to tie Steffi Graf's record for the most major championships in the Open era. It's the seventh Wimbledon title for the top-seeded American, and her first Grand Slam victory in a year. After winning Wimbledon last year, she lost in the U.S. Open semifinals and in the final of the Australian and French Opens. Kerber, who beat Williams in the Australian Open final, was playing for her second major title.

PARIS (AP) — French police and troops are gearing up for their biggest security challenge since the deadly Nov. 13 attacks across Paris last year. Hundreds of thousands of soccer fans are expected in the French capital for tomorrow's European Championship final. France is hoping to win its third European title when it plays Portugal at the stadium where three suicide bombers blew themselves up last year.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraq's prime minister says government forces have recaptured a key air base from the Islamic State group. Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi describes the recapture of the base (Qayara) in northern Iraq as "important" to the long-awaited military operation to retake the city of Mosul from the militants.

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — NATO leaders have agreed to do more to support countries in North Africa and Middle East that are prey to violent Islamic extremism. Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg (yehnz STOHL'-tehn-burg) says NATO will start a training and capacity-building mission for Iraqi armed forces, provide assistance for Jordan, and establish a new intelligence center in Tunisia. NATO leaders also agreed in principle to provide surveillance aircraft in support of the coalition fighting the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Members of the commercial fishing business are worried that a bait shortage could hurt the New England lobster industry. But they're hoping an emergency rule will ease the crisis, which is due to a lack of herring being caught far off of New England. The emergency rule limits the amount of herring fishermen may catch each week.
