Williams is seeking her 22nd Grand Slam singles title, which would tie Steffi Graf's all-time record. Kerber has dropped five of her seven meetings with Williams, but she beat her in the Australian Open final earlier this year.

NEW YORK (AP) — Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon and Nationals hurler Max Scherzer have been selected as National League replacements for next week's All-Star game in San Diego. Colon was chosen to replace San Francisco's Madison Bumgarner and Scherzer will fill in for Washington teammate Stephen Strasburg. NEW YORK (AP) — The Mets say starting pitcher and former ace Matt Harvey will have season-ending surgery for his thoracic outlet syndrome injury. Thoracic outlet syndrome is caused by the compression of nerves, blood vessels or both in the area between the neck and armpit. Mets manager Terry Collins says Harvey made no excuses for his poor performance, and they were relieved to know what contributed to his 4-10 record and 4.86 ERA.

SPARTA, Ky. (AP) — Kevin Harvick was given the pole position for tonight's Sprint Cup race at Kentucky Speedway after yesterday's qualifying was canceled by rain. Harvick gets the top spot based on owner points and will start alongside Brad Keselowski. Harvick hasn't won since the fourth race at Phoenix but has posted 13 top-10 finishes with seven top fives in 17 starts.
