CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Animal care and control officers in western Indiana have rescued 56 dogs from a home where they say the animals were left living in their own waste.
The Animal Welfare League in Montgomery County says food was scattered throughout the house in Crawfordsville, and the dogs were in bad health.
WRTV-TV reports (http://bit.ly/298SJaf ) that officers removed 53 Chihuahuas, two Black Lab puppies and a Shepherd.
Animal care and control says the homeowner gave up ownership of the animals and is cooperating with authorities, but is not facing criminal charges.
The dogs will be put up for adoption.
