FERRUM, Va. (AP) — Ferrum College has appointed a new president.
The university announced Monday in a news release that Joseph Spooner will serve as the school's 11th president starting Aug. 1.
Chair of the Ferrum College Presidential Search Committee Robert W. Todd announced the appointment following the selection by the College Board of Trustees. He was unanimously chosen by the board.
Spooner is currently the dean of Jonathan Edwards College at Yale University.
Board of Trustees Chair Samuel L. Lionberger says the board believes Spooner has the vision and the leadership skills needed to move the university forward.
Spooner's appointment follows a national search that began after current President Jennifer L. Braaten announced her plans to retire after 14 years.
