This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Signs... Signs.. Signs.. Everywhere you look, there are signs. We see them on storefronts, on billboards and the sides of vehicles. Most of the time, they are such a part of our lives that we don't stop and think where those signs all come from.

If you live in Southern Utah, there is a very good chance that the signs you see were made by Rainbow Sign and Banner in St. George. Steve Davis and Mike Hamlin purchased Rainbow Sign over six years ago. The company was actually established in 1990 and from the outset was a major supplier for businesses in Washington County that wanted to let the public know who they were and what they did.

Steve and Mike are involved in every aspect of the company. They not only manage and direct all of the activities of the business but also do most of the selling. Steve explained to me that they don't spend a lot of money on advertising but rely heavily on repeat business from satisfied customers. Part of their mission is to be a good community-minded organization. They love helping in the community in a variety of ways and believe their commitment translates into good business.

As I watched the various processes of sign making, I asked what kind of signs and banners does Rainbow produce? I was told that the company does a little of everything without emphasis on one specific product. Being a sign shop in a small town requires them to be highly diversified and create everything from real estate signs and vehicle graphics to large electric and neon signs. I enjoyed watching some workers make signs for a fleet truck with a sticky-backed, pressure-sensitive vinyl.

Steve and Mike got into the ownership business after working for a sign supply company. They marketed computerized sign equipment while working out of Salt Lake City. They heard about Rainbow Sign and Banner being available and jumped at the chance to become entrepreneurs and owners.

They have been joined by 25 employees who do everything from design, assembly, manufacture, welding and fabrication to installation.

Business is booming in St. George. It's a SIGN of the times.

For Zions Bank, this is Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
