BRUSSELS (AP) — A statement from Belgian authorities suggests they believed a violent attack was likely planned soon after an investigation that prompted anti-terror raids on dozens of homes in 16 communities today, mostly in and around Brussels. A dozen suspects were arrested after 40 people were brought in for questioning. Belgium remains under the second highest terror alert in wake of the March 22 attacks on the Brussels subway and airport which left 32 people dead.
COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Authorities in Finland say a shooter has been found dead after killing one police officer and seriously wounding another. The officers had approached a remote countryside property where gunfire had been reported late yesterday. Finnish broadcaster YLE said the last time a police officer in Finland was killed on duty was in 2007.
MOSCOW (AP) — Three astronauts are safely back on Earth from the International Space Station. A Soyuz capsule carrying an American, a Briton and a Russian landed today in the sun-drenched steppes of Kazakhstan. NASA's Tim Kopra, Tim Peake of the European Space Agency and Russian Yuri Malenchenko spent 186 days in space.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Officials say a Florida assistant state attorney is in hot water over a Facebook posting in the wake of the Orlando nightclub attack. WESH-TV reports that Kenneth Lewis was suspended yesterday for violating the office's social media policy. His post said Orlando "should be leveled." He calls it "a melting pot of 3rd world miscreants and ghetto thugs."
MEDFORD, N.J. (AP) — Thousands of friends and fans said farewell to "The Voice" singer Christina Grimmie at services in New Jersey. Grimmie's family received condolences for five hours before an emotional memorial service. The singer's music was played and a large picture of her was displayed on an easel. The 22-year-old was shot to death last week as she signed autographs after a show in Orlando, Florida. Her assailant fatally shot himself.
