SALT LAKE CITY — While searching for the perfect Father’s Day gift, it can be difficult to select an item that sums up one’s appreciation for their dad while simultaneously checking something off his Amazon wish list.
If you’re too old to conjure up a tear from dad by presenting him with a paint handprint, and too poor to take him on a dream vacation, you may consider planning a fun outing for the two of you to enjoy.
See the following list for outing ideas.
“Come Fly With Me”
If your dad is flying an airplane for the first time, it’s sure to be an unforgettable experience for him. Those who dare to take flying lessons can save $100 on an introductory flight experience with Bountiful Flight. During the 30-minute flying experience, participants will learn the basics of flying, sightsee over Salt Lake City and fly the airplane themselves, according to KSL Deals. Only one person will actually take the lesson, but they can bring along two passengers. The experience costs $49.
Take him out to eat
Eating good food is something everyone who isn’t crazy enjoys. If there is a family favorite restaurant or a restaurant that just screams “dad,” make a reservation and take your dad on a date. This gift can be as inexpensive or as spendy as you choose. And if there are free chips and salsa beforehand, that’s a bonus.
Take him out to a ballgame
Even if you don’t enjoy sports, attending a live game can be fun. Saturday at 8 p.m., Real Salt Lake will play the Portland Timbers at Rio Tinto Stadium. Tickets range from $30 to $70 and are available online. If you can’t make Saturday’s game (because you’re too busy taking dad out flying or to his favorite restaurant), the team plays the New York Red Bulls at 8 p.m. June 22 at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Go on a hike
The summer after ninth grade, my dad promised to paint my bedroom purple if I hiked the beautiful Ben Lomond with him. He hates painting and I hated hiking at the time, so it was a fair trade. It turned out to be a memorable outing, and we still enjoy hiking together during the summer. Lucky for us, Utah is filled with gorgeous trails. Get him to laugh
The Improvables, an improv comedy troupe based in Davis County, performs family friendly shows Friday nights at CenterPoint Legacy Theatre and the second and fourth Saturday of the month at the Clearfield Community Arts Center, according to KSL Deals. This $10 voucher includes two tickets to the show at either location and two refreshments. To learn more details about the show, visit KSL Deals.
