HASTINGS, Neb. (AP) — A Hastings College student has received an award to study in India during the 2016-2017 academic year.
The Grand Island Independent (http://bit.ly/1OktuFw ) reports that the National Security Education Program awarded Suzette Escamilla Morales a David L. Boren Scholarship. The program is a federal initiative to create a broader and more qualified pool of U.S. citizens with international and foreign language skills.
She will study the Hindi language at the University of Wisconsin-Madison this summer while preparing for her year abroad.
In the fall semester, she will study Hindi in Jaipur, India. In the spring semester, she will take political science, economics and Hindi language classes in Hyderabad, India.
Escamilla Morales was one of 160 scholarship recipients out of 820 applications.
