EAGLE MOUNTAIN — A hostage-taker is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Eagle Mountain on Summit Way Sunday night, a spokesman for the sheriff's office said.

Just before 10 p.m., Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon tweeted the following: "Officer involved shooting in Eagle Mountain. Suspect in hostage situation is dead ... "

Eagle Mountain city officials posted a "public safety alert" on the city's Facebook page, saying the suspect was "suicidal." The post warned residents nearby to stay in their homes until the situation could be resolved.

No word yet on who the deceased is or exactly what caused police to open fire on him or her.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
