JUAB COUNTY — Campers near the Cherry Creek area in central Utah are being evacuated because of a growing wildfire, officials at the Juab County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
Lt. Brent Pulver of the Juab County Sheriff's Office said the fire, being referred to as North Monroe Fire, broke out in the Cherry Creek area about 25 miles southwest of Eureka, and has already blossomed to “several hundred acres in size.” According to Utah Fire Info, the fire has grown to an estimated 1,000 acres since it started.
No structures are being threatened by the fire, but fire danger is high in the area, officials warned.
Pulver said BLM is assisting multiple Juab County Fire units in fighting the fire with air tankers and engines. The fire is being monitored overnight and crews will continue to fight the fire in the morning, Pulver added.
No containment of the fire has been made, Pulver said. A cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
