LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 27-year-old man who was shot by police after allegedly trying to hit an officer with a stolen patrol car has been indicted on multiple felony charges including attempted murder.

Prosecutor Frank Coumou says Jamal Gwynn was also charged Wednesday with auto theft, robbery, property damage and weapon offenses.

Gwynn is due for arraignment June 16 in Clark County District Court.

Defense attorney Marissa Pensabene (pens-ah-BEHN'-ay) says she'll seek a competency evaluation to ensure Gwynn can assist in his defense.

Gwynn was wounded in the chest and arm and was hospitalized following his arrest May 6 in the patrol car in northwest Las Vegas.

Police say he displayed a pellet handgun to steal a car from a woman at a home not far from where the police shooting took place.
