POTTSGROVE, Pa. (AP) — An eastern Pennsylvania high school will replace a student-led prayer with a moment of silent reflection.

The Reading Eagle (http://bit.ly/1XajhxK ) reports the Pottsgrove School Board approved the change Tuesday night. The high school's commencement ceremony is June 15.

School solicitor Marc Davis says it's unlikely the board could have ratified a prayer policy in time for the ceremony.

A parent objected when a student digressed from a scripted, nondenominational prayer at last year's ceremony.

That led the school board to debate whether to let prayer continue at the graduation ceremony. More than 20 people signed up to speak at Tuesday's meeting, with many students saying they're sad that the controversy has overshadowed their graduation.

Senior Caroline Remelius says, "To have this community practically eat each other alive is just sad."
