PUTNAM TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A nearly 170-year-old one-room school building in Livingston County will be on the move to a new location.
The Livingston Daily Press & Argus of Howell reports (http://bit.ly/1Zt17Wc ) that the 1849 Hicks schoolhouse in Putnam Township is expected to be relocated 19 miles away on Wednesday to a historic farmstead in Brighton Township.
Archaeologist Tim Bennett tells the newspaper that he plans to renovate the schoolhouse into a pottery studio, loom weaving area for his daughters and an exhibition space for historical artifacts.
The owner of the land the schoolhouse has been sitting on plans to redevelop that site.
