WASHINGTON (AP) — The president of George Washington University says he'll step down next year.
Steven Knapp announced in a news release on Tuesday that he won't seek a new contract when his term expires in July 2017. He will have spent 10 years as president of the university.
During his final year, Knapp says he'll focus his efforts on a fundraising campaign that was launched two years ago. The university says it's on track to meet Knapp's goal of raising $1 billion by 2018.
Knapp was an English professor at the University of California, Berkeley, before serving as dean of arts and sciences there. He then became provost of the Johns Hopkins University.
