DRAPER — About 300 guests, all staff members and 16 penguins were evacuated from the Loveland Living Aquarium Saturday afternoon following an air conditioning malfunction that closed the park for about an hour.

At about 1 p.m., Unified fire crews responded to the scene after a call that the aquarium’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system malfunctioned, according to the aquarium’s spokeswoman Shelby Dobson in a written statement.

Dobson said three employees of the aquarium were taken to a hospital as a precaution and the 16 penguins were moved to another location.

The aquarium reopened at about 2:15 p.m., Dobson said.
