DETROIT (AP) — A 41-year-old former Detroit high school principal who drove a Maserati has been sentenced in a bribery case.
A federal judge on Wednesday ordered Kenyetta Wilbourn-Snapp to serve one year in prison. She also was ordered to pay restitution to the Education Achievement Authority district and the IRS.
Wilbourn-Snapp pleaded guilty in February to accepting nearly $60,000 from a company hired to perform tutoring services. She also pleaded guilty to a tax crime.
At that time, she told a judge that she "betrayed the public trust."
Wilbourn-Snapp was principal at two struggling Detroit schools, Denby and Mumford. She says payoffs were part of the education culture in Detroit.
Glynis Thornton pleaded guilty to conspiracy. She admitted to paying bribes to the principal in exchange for her company getting the work.
