KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Pakistan is reiterating its protest against drone strikes conducted on its territory. A statement from the Foreign Ministry says the United States informed the Pakistani prime minster and army chief late yesterday that it had carried out a drone strike targeting the Taliban leader, Mullah Mohammed Akhtar Mansour. The Afghan government and a senior Taliban commander say Mansour was killed in the strike in southwestern Pakistan.

ISTANBUL, Turkey (AP) — A top United Nations official is urging world leaders to reform the humanitarian aid system and uphold international humanitarian law. Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson (yahn EEL'-ee-ah-son) spoke on the eve of the first World Humanitarian Summit. He says the gathering in Istanbul is a "wake-up call for action."

AUBURN, Mass. (AP) — Authorities in Massachusetts are searching for the person who fatally shot a police officer during a traffic stop overnight. Police say Auburn Officer Ronald Tarentino was pronounced dead at UMass Medical Center in Worcester (WUS'-tur). State and local police officers lined up outside the hospital as a police procession accompanied Tarentino's body to the state medical examiner's office in Boston.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) — Officials say one person was injured when a car was struck by a CSX train carrying coal in Maryland. Authorities say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding this morning's accident in Gaithersburg. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

YORK, Pa. (AP) — A central Pennsylvania high school student barred from attending prom at her Catholic high school because she wore a suit instead of a dress has had her prom night — at a different school. Aniya Wolf, a student at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, attended William Penn High School's prom last night. Wolf says she has worn a shirt and pants for all three years she has attended her school and only learned at the last minute that girls were required to wear dresses to the prom.
