CAIRO (AP) — What brought down EgyptAir Flight 804 remains a mystery, with word that smoke was detected aboard the jetliner in the minutes before it disappeared from radar. The French air accident investigation agency says the plane's automatic detection system sent messages indicating smoke in multiple places before the plane plummeted into the Mediterranean. The plane's cockpit voice and flight data recorders could provide answers. A senior official at the Egyptian Civil Aviation Ministry is denying reports that the "black boxes" have been found.

Homeboykris had rallied to win the race by a half-length this morning, but after having his picture taken in the winner's circle, he collapsed and died. The 9-year-old gelding will be taken to New Bolton Center in Pennsylvania for an autopsy.

FORT MCMURRAY, Alberta (AP) — Canadian officials have lifted mandatory evacuation orders in some areas north of Fort McMurray, Alberta, where a raging wildfire has forced more than 80,000 people from their homes. The blaze, which began May 1, has burned 1,930 square miles and destroyed more than 1,900 structures in Fort McMurray. Officials are hopeful that cooler temperatures, higher humidity and rain forecast over the weekend will help stop the growth and spread of the fire.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A gigantic space shuttle fuel tank is creeping through the Los Angeles area at 5 miles per hour. The 33-ton, 154-foot-long external propellant tank is moving from coastal Marina del Rey to the California Science Center in downtown Los Angeles. Some light poles along the route have been unbolted and turned so their arms wouldn't hit the towering tank. Freeway drivers also got a shock as it rolled across an overpass in Inglewood.
