SPRINGVILLE — An 18-year-old man who police say took to social media asking people meet him at Springville High School with an AK-47 has been arrested for investigation of making a terroristic threat.

Marcus Swendsen, a former Springville High student, posted a message on Twitter "that people could meet him at Springville High School with an AK-47," according to Springville Police Lt. Dave Caron. A second post on Twitter was a "depiction" of a skull, he said.

There were also tweets made in reference to Columbine High School, Caron said.

Police were notified Friday morning of the tweets and went to Swendsen's house. Caron said no weapons were found and there was no evidence Swendsen had the means to carry out his threats.

"He said he just wanted to stir (stuff) up," Caron said. "If he thought it was funny, we certainly didn't find any humor in it."

Swendsen, who police say went to Springville last year but was currently enrolled in one of the alternative high schools, was arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail.

"We're not going to tolerate that kind of thing. In today's world, we don't know if he's going to follow through on that type of thing or not," Caron said.
