BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Several small, free libraries for children are coming to Birmingham area parks.

GPS Educational Services announced the installation of "Little Free Libraries" in a news release on Monday. The libraries are designed to promote literacy and a sense of community among area youth.

The Little Libraries are free and children can take and leave books as they please. The libraries will be installed next to benches so that children can read at the Little Library.

The first Little Library will be unveiled May 21 during a ceremony at Maclin Park. Other libraries will be installed in Crestwood Park, Cooper Green Park and Central Park.

GPS Educational Services is a full service education services provider with offerings in After-School Reading and Math Tutoring, Parental Involvement and Professional Development Programs for schools.
