LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Latest on the stabbing death of a toddler in Los Angeles (all times local):
7:30 a.m.
Los Angeles police say they have arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of stabbing his live-in girlfriend and her 2-year-old daughter in their home, killing the little girl and critically wounding her mother.
Officials said at a news conference Tuesday that the arrest came following a tip from the suspect's father. The suspect has not been named.
Investigators believe the man is the child's father. They say the stabbing followed an argument.
Officers responding to a call late Monday found both victims with multiple stab wounds on the floor of the home near downtown.
The toddler died at a hospital. Her mother remains hospitalized in critical condition and is unable to talk to detectives.
