BAGHDAD (AP) — Anti-government protesters are making themselves heard in Iraq's capital. Supporters of Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr tore down walls and poured into Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone on Saturday. The protesters, who have been mostly peaceful, are demanding an overhaul of a corrupt and ineffective political system. Iraq has been mired in the political crisis for months.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry is heading to Europe this weekend for urgent talks on Syria. The State Department says Kerry will leave Washington on Sunday and will hold meetings the following day in Geneva with the U.N. envoy for Syria as well as the foreign ministers of Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Kerry will be reviewing efforts to reaffirm a fragile truce nationwide

PALESTINE, Texas (AP) — Authorities say they've found a sixth body following flash flooding in East Texas that also killed a woman and her four great-grandchildren. The latest victim was identified as 30-year-old Giovani Olivas of Palestine, Texas, who was swept under flood waters. More than 7 inches of rain fell in less than an hour late Friday evening, swamping a neighborhood.

NEW YORK (AP) — Daniel Berrigan is dead. He was a well-known Jesuit priest and a peace activist. Berrigan was imprisoned for burning draft files in a 1968 protest against the Vietnam war. He and his younger brother, the Rev. Phillip Berrigan, emerged as leaders of the radical anti-war movement in the 1960s. Berrigan died today at a Jesuit infirmary at Fordham University. He was 94.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — It's a special day for Jill Biden. Vice President Joe Biden's wife marked the beginning of construction on a future American attack submarine. As the sponsor for the USS Delaware, she hosted the keel-laying ceremony in Newport News, Virginia, today. When construction is complete, she will christen the boat.
