NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are down after a rout in tech stocks. Apple sank 3 percent today, its second big loss in a row, after billionaire investor Carl Icahn told CNBC he had sold his stake in the company. The Dow fell nearly 211 points, or 1.2 percent, to 17,830. The S&P 500 index lost 19 points, or 0.9 percent, to 2,075. The Nasdaq gave up nearly 58 points, or 1.2 percent, to 4,805.
NEW YORK (AP) — There's an uptick in oil prices. Benchmark U.S. crude oil, which is at its highest prices in almost six months, rose 70 cents, or 1.5 percent today, to close at $46.03 a barrel in New York. Brent crude, the international standard, picked up 96 cents, or 2 percent, to $48.14 a barrel in London.
UNDATED (AP) — Amgen has beaten and is raising profit expectations after surging sales of its medicines, tight cost controls and other factors lifted the biologic drugmaker's first-quarter profit by 17 percent. The company today reported net income of $1.9 billion, or $2.50 per share.. Revenue rose 10 percent to $5.53 billion for the world's biggest maker of biologic drugs.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — State officials say Nevada gambling revenue was down 3 percent in March compared with last year due to lower winnings in the Las Vegas area. The Nevada Gaming Control Board says the state's casinos won $922 million in March. The state collected almost $73 million in tax money based off the winnings, which is down 8 percent from the same time last year.
VALLETTA, Malta (AP) —A minister in Malta is being relieved of his duties in energy and health after acknowledging opening a company in Panama which is held by a trust in New Zealand. But the prime minister says the minister will retain the title of minister and will work on special projects. The minister has also been asked to resign as deputy leader of the ruling Labour Party.
