Republican Senator Orrin Hatch has announced support for research cloning to produce stem cells. His position is counter to the rest of Utah's congressional delegation and to President Bush. He said that one of the issues that stood out was that the research did not involve the use of a fertilized egg. Instead, it involved using genetic material from an egg cell and from a specialized adult cell, such as a skin cell.
