Sandra Yi ReportingPolice are investigating the death of a two-year old boy. Investigators suspect child abuse.
Police say the baby's death wasn't an accident. They arrested the mother's live-in boyfriend.
Police say the man was watching the toddler last night while the mother was at work. Around 7 o'clock, he called 911 and said the baby was not breathing.
Paramedics arrived and the baby was taken to Cottonwood Hospital, then flown to Primary Children's Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the suspect made inconsistent statements about how the toddler was injured.
Det. Kenny Bass, Murry Police Dept.: "Originally, it was more of a call that he didn't know what had happened."
Heather Anderson, Neighbor: "When the ambulance came out, it was several minutes, probably 10 or 15 minutes inside, they had the little boy on a stretcher. They were breathing for him, pumping the bag and breathing for him."
Police arrested Phillip Guyman on suspicion of child abuse homicide. Neighbors say the couple moved into the home a few months ago. Police say a five-year old girl also lives in the home, and neighbors saw her grandmother come and pick her up.
The Division of Child and Family Services says it has never been called to the home before. DCFS is now providing resources to the mother and making sure any other children in the home are safe.
